Tanzania Safari In February

February can be a fantastic experience, as it falls within the dry season in most parts of the country. The dry season, which runs from June to October, is generally considered the best time for wildlife viewing in Tanzania. However, February is also a good time to visit, particularly for those who want to witness the wildebeest calving season and catch sight of the Great Migration in the southern Serengeti.

The Great Migration is in its calving season, where vast herds of wildebeest, zebras, and other herbivores give birth to their young amidst the plentiful grasslands. This event attracts numerous predators, such as lions, cheetahs, and hyenas, resulting in thrilling scenes of predator-prey interactions.

The Ngorongoro Crater, often referred to as the “Africa’s Eden,” is another prime location to explore during February. This natural caldera houses an array of animals within its enclosed ecosystem, providing an intimate setting for observing wildlife interactions. With luck, you might spot the endangered black rhino, elephants, buffalo, and an array of bird species against the breathtaking backdrop of the crater walls.

Tarangire National Park is also a highlight during this time, as it serves as a vital water source for wildlife during the dry season. The Tarangire River draws elephants, giraffes, zebras, and numerous bird species, creating a vibrant and dynamic scene of animal activity around the waterways.

February’s relatively dry climate and warm temperatures create optimal conditions for game drives and photography. While the days are warm, evenings can be cooler, so packing layers is advisable. The lack of heavy foliage during this season enhances visibility, making it easier to spot animals from a distance.

Wildlife Viewing

February is a great time for wildlife viewing in Tanzania. The dry season means that animals gather around water sources, making them easier to spot. The Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park are popular destinations for witnessing the annual wildebeest calving season, where you can observe thousands of young wildebeests being born.

Weather and Landscape

February falls within Tanzania's dry season, which means you'll likely experience sunny and warm weather. However, it can also be quite hot during the day. The landscapes are relatively dry, and the grass is shorter, which can make it easier to spot wildlife as they gather around water sources. While the weather is generally dry, there might be occasional short rain showers, especially in the northern and central regions of Tanzania.

Reviews From TripAdvisor
amina The best experience of our lives!!

Jan 2023 My husband and I both agreed that this safari was once in a lifetime kind of experience and everyone at Nature Responsible Safaris was phenomenal. From the initial booking to the actual day of the safari, they made sure we had the best experience by tailoring the safari to our needs. We did a 7-day safari which started at the beautiful Haradali home followed the next day by going to Tarangire, then Serengeti, and finally Ngorongoro. The tented hotels we stayed at were beautiful and within the national parks. Our guide Mshonvi was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. He made the bumpy rides enjoyable! It's always daunting trying to plan a safari and get your money's worth but I would highly recommend this tour company. We are still talking about the experience days later!

Lauren 10/10 recommend!

Kaspar G Very personal Safari experience!

We took a lot of time selecting our safari provider and finally choose Nature Responsible Safari from the huge amount of organizers for our trip to Tanzania. The time we invested was well worth it, as Martina and Francisca work with incredible passion. The expedition to Mt. Kilimanjaro went smoothly and successfully thanks to their organization. Our safari was excellently planned from start to finish and tailored exactly to our wishes. The choice of accommodations left nothing to be desired. Our guide accompanied us competently and safely over a week and made it possible for us to have an unforgettable nature experience. With Martina, we had an incredibly committed contact person even beyond our time in Tanzania, who made a significant contribution to this trip, which exceeded our expectations. The last thing to be mentioned is that the price was set fairly and adequately, which was often not the case with other providers. We can therefore fully recommend Nature Responsible!
